Startup: Aucadia.com

Startup description

Name:

Aucadia.com

Summary:

A community website aimed at musicians and fans. Similar to last.fm's community aspect, but the business model is closer to Sellaband.com. Fans can invest in bands by buying and selling shares.

Description:

This is quite a difficult website to explain, but I'll do my best. I'm also going to try and not give too much away in terms of the business model, as I'm confident it's a good one, and I don't want somebody reading this to go and make an identical site.

As described in the 'Project Summary', this website will be somewhere between last fm and Sellaband, with the added component of users being able to buy and sell shares in an artist.

I'm looking for one (or more, but perhaps this is being too optimistic) programmers to join me in my bid to get a working beta site out by Christmas. As this project will be unpaid (at first, but the success of the project will be shared of course) I would expect any person whom replies to this to have employment elsewhere, hence only able to work on it a little bit in their free time. That's absolutely fine. Even just having someone to look over my code or give a second perspective would be a huge boost.

This project has gone under one beta phase already last year, which wasn't particularly successful and resulted in me deciding to start the coding from scratch. The main reason for this was the fact that I was using the PHP on Trax framework (a poor choice) and it was getting outdated/had poor documentation. So I've started again with CakePHP (a massive improvement) and it's given the code a new lease of life. You can see the remnants of this at Aucadia.com. But please don't judge the quality of this site too much, as I've learnt a lot since then, and the project has come a long way.

On successful completion of the beta phase, the site will go into the next stage, which (if our business plan turns out to be correct) will start creating revenue straight away. Therefore, if you can help get this site out on time, you could find yourself with a new income stream after christmas (albeit a small one at first).

Ideally I'd like to collaborate with someone in or around London, UK. But thankfully, due to the internet, this is not a necessity. Please contact me if this interests you irrespective of where you are. My interests are split between web development and music, so I'd like to find another PHP programmer with some musical interest so that this project will be as rewarding for them as I hope it will be for me.

I can't describe how excited I am about this project and can only really go into the reasons why once I've established mutual trust with someone (for the reasons I listed). I'm determined to see this project through to completion, with or without a helping hand. But please help me make it sooner rather than later. This idea could transform the music industry.

This is a great (and ambitious) project. Many have dreamed of building such a site!

I hope you can make it happen.
